Used Pivot Joints for Construction Equipment

45 produits disponibles

In our body parts range, the pivot joint refers to the structural component connecting two parts of a construction machine. On a mini excavator, the boom is not attached directly to the turret: it pivots on a joint that allows it to swing left or right. When the bushings wear out or a weld cracks, the boom wobbles with each movement, causing loss of precision. Our used pivot joints are dismantled from mini excavators, wheeled excavators, and backhoe loaders, then inspected in our workshop. Our stock also includes central pivot joints for articulated dump trucks and compactors.

Boom Pivot Joint: the Part Supporting the Offset

On a mini excavator such as a Kubota KX080-4 or a Caterpillar 305C, the pivot joint connects the boom foot to the turret chassis. It receives the swing cylinder, which rotates it to dig along walls. On compact wheeled excavators, it plays the same role at the turret end. On a backhoe loader like the JCB 3CX or Case 580SLE, it is the rotation point for the rear excavator arm. In all cases, it absorbs digging forces and lateral shocks.

Central Pivot Joint: the Articulated Dump Truck's Hinge

On an articulated dump truck, the central pivot joint connects the tractor front to the dumper body. It allows steering and lets the two parts oscillate relative to each other, keeping the wheels on the ground on rough terrain. This is a heavy-duty part, constantly under load. The same principles apply to compactors and articulated loaders, where the central pivot joint also handles the lifting arm forces. Inspecting a Used Pivot Joint

  • Bushings: no ovality, measurable play with original pin.
  • Welds and angles: no cracks, especially around mounting ears.
  • Grease channels: clear, no rust in grease fittings.
  • Stops and bearing surfaces: marked but not worn through.
  • Year of manufacture and serial number of the original machine.

Pivot Joint, Pin, or Swing Cylinder?

Play in the boom doesn’t always come from the pivot joint itself. Pins and bushings wear first and their replacement often suffices. The pivot joint is replaced when its bushings are oval or the metal is cracked. If the boom itself is cracked, see our used booms. On a two-piece boom, the cylinder controlling the upper part is another component: see our used pivot swing cylinders. For the rest of the machine, browse the used construction body parts selection.

With the bucket resting on the ground, gently rotate the boom: a knock or visible play at the boom foot signals wear. Start by replacing the pins and bushings. If play persists with new parts, the pivot joint bushings are ovalled and the part must be replaced.

Minor cracks can sometimes be repaired by welding, provided the area is properly prepared and the part is inspected afterward. On a stress-bearing area of the boom, a poorly done weld will crack again. An original used pivot joint inspected in workshop avoids this risk and lengthy downtime for repairs.

The price mainly depends on the size of the machine: a pivot joint for a 3-ton mini excavator doesn’t have the weight or value of one for a wheeled excavator. Some stock items list prices as-is on the product page. Others are priced on request, after verifying the model and bushings condition.
