A jerky joystick, a broken handle, or a malfunctioning horn button — all affect the precision of your work. Codimatra, specialists in used spare parts for construction equipment for over 40 years, offers joysticks removed from mini excavators, excavators, and loaders, thoroughly tested in our Castelculier workshop before sale.

Control and Operation of Mini Excavator Joysticks

On a mini excavator, the two joysticks control the hydraulic movements of the arm and turret. In the most common ISO configuration, the left joystick operates the boom and turret rotation, while the right joystick controls the stick and bucket. Movement on the tracks is managed by two levers or two pedals, and the blade by a separate lever. A hydraulic joystick controls the hydraulic distributor, and an electric joystick sends signals to the solenoid valves.

Mini Excavator Joysticks for Kubota, Yanmar, Volvo and Other Brands

  • Kubota: Joysticks for KX080-4 mini excavators
  • Volvo: Mini excavator ECR88D, loaders L45G and L150E
  • Yanmar, Bobcat, and Takeuchi: depending on the mini excavators dismantled
  • Mecalac: Excavators 714MW, 12MTX, and 12MXT
  • Caterpillar and Liebherr: Excavators 314C, 336D, M315C, A316, R920 and R926

Hydraulic or Electric Joystick: Making the Right Choice

A hydraulic joystick cannot replace an electric one, and vice versa: the mini excavator’s control system determines which is needed. Also, note the number of buttons, the type of connector, the number of hydraulic fittings, and the mounting side — left or right. On a mini excavator, an ISO or SAE cross-control may have been modified: verify the configuration before ordering.

Handle and Buttons: Common Mini Excavator Joystick Issues

  • Splitted handle or torn boot allowing dust entry
  • Non-functional auxiliary circuit or horn button
  • Jerky movement or delayed response despite healthy hydraulic circuit
  • Leakage at joystick base or imperfect neutral return
  • Damaged wiring harness on an electric joystick

Operating a Mini Excavator: Safety Devices

Before operating a mini excavator, check the safety lever: when raised, it cuts hydraulic power and locks the joysticks and travel functions. On-site, operating a mini excavator requires operator authorization issued by the employer, usually based on the CACES R482 certification. To replace a joystick, work with the engine off, battery disconnected, and boom resting on the ground.

Mini Excavator Parts: Operator’s Station

Lower the safety lever, start the machine, then move it using the travel levers or pedals, with the turret aligned to the tracks. The joysticks then control the arm: in ISO configuration, left controls the boom and rotation, right controls the stick and bucket. Always check the machine’s control pictogram.

Identify buried utilities, work on stable ground, and keep the rotation zone clear. Start at low speed, one movement at a time. On-site, training and operator authorization are required.

The principle is the same as with a mini excavator: travel via levers or pedals, operation via two joysticks. Controls and ISO or SAE layout depend on the machine: consult its manual before use.

Rarely without verification: control type, number of buttons, and connectors vary between series. Compatibility is confirmed by the machine's serial number and joystick reference.
