Used Construction Equipment Grille

Engine overheating in the middle of summer, temperature alarm lights up as soon as the loader strains: before suspecting the radiator, check the grille. A grille dented by a bucket or clogged with soil blocks cooling airflow. Our used grilles come from loaders, bulldozers, and dump trucks dismantled at the Codimatra workshop in Castelculier, where every part is inspected before sale. Over 40 years of dismantling have taught us to distinguish a reusable grille from one that must be discarded.

Why the Grille is Key to Cooling

The grille is the mesh placed in front of the radiator assembly. It allows airflow drawn in by the fan while stopping stones, branches, and clumps of soil. Behind it work the water radiator, the air radiator, and often the hydraulic oil radiator.

Crushed mesh reduces the exchange surface. Cooling efficiency drops, oil temperature rises, and on a summer site, the machine ends up overheating during the day.

Grille for Wheel Loader, Bulldozer, or Backhoe Loader

  • Wheel Loader: located at the rear, behind the counterweight, often mounted on hinges for easy maintenance
  • Bulldozer and Crawler Loader: at the front, first line facing blade splashes
  • Dump Truck: at the front, facing the track
  • Backhoe Loader: front grill of the engine hood, above the loader bucket
  • Excavator and Mini-Excavator: ventilation grilles integrated into the hood

Used Grilles from Caterpillar, Liebherr and Komatsu

Most of our grilles come from Caterpillar machines: D6T bulldozers, 953C and 963C crawler loaders, 988G loader, 769D and 771D dump trucks, M320F wheeled excavator. Also included are the Liebherr LR622 crawler loader and the Komatsu WA320-6 wheel loader.

For a grille for a JCB or Case backhoe loader, hydraulic excavator, or Volvo loader, our advisors conduct a search among the machines entering dismantling.

Original Used Part or Replacement Part

  • Original part: same mounting points, same ventilation grilles, same sheet metal as the factory-installed grille
  • Replacement part: new, but made outside the manufacturer, with sometimes approximate dimensions
  • Installation: an original Caterpillar or Liebherr grille fits without drilling or shims
  • On site: on a construction machine, hinge durability matters more than appearance

963B or 963C: Series Makes All the Difference

From one generation to the next, manufacturers often change mounting points, frame shape, and mesh size. A Caterpillar 963C grille will not fit a 963B without modification. The serial number on the machine’s identification plate confirms the correct reference. Also photograph the grille in place with its hinges and locks.

Grille Mesh: Our Inspection Before Shipment

  • Frame lying flat: straight, no twisting that would prevent closing
  • Mesh neither crushed nor torn
  • Operable hinges and locking mechanisms
  • Corrosion limited to non-structural areas

Three Details Needed for Your Quote

Provide the brand and model of your construction machine, the serial number from the plate, and the grille location, along with a photo of its mountings. Our advisors search among approximately 17,000 references and respond at 05 18 23 21 34. Parts are shipped throughout France. For other bodywork parts, browse the used construction bodywork range.

It is the protective mesh placed in front of the cooling assembly. It lets cooling air in and blocks debris. On a construction machine, it is much more robust than on a car: thick sheet metal or steel mesh, mounted on a bolted or hinged frame for maintenance.

At the front, in front of the radiator, since the engine is located there. The rule is the same on a machine: the grille is always on the engine side. On a dump truck, it's at the front. On a wheel loader, the engine is at the rear: the grille closes the rear of the machine, behind the counterweight. On a bulldozer, it faces the blade.

Yes. A dented or clogged mesh reduces airflow to the assembly, causing the engine and hydraulic oil temperatures to rise. First clean the assembly. If the mesh remains crushed or the frame bent, an original used grille restores airflow.
