Its role is to ensure the rigidity of the steering system by the external ball joint and the alignment of the wheels by the axial ball joint. The tie rod is located between the rack and the knuckle joint.

When to change your tie rod?

The outer tie rod must be checked at each major overhaul. It is essential to change the tie rod when signs of wear begin to appear: vibration, clapping, bellows gap, clearance, imprecision in the direction, non homogeneous wear of the tire ... However a visual inspection is imperative between maintenance cycles.
