What is the role of a Bevel gear?

 The bevel gear makes it possible to transmit a rotational movement to the wheel shafts. It is a set of two pieces that fit into one another. This centerpiece is located at the level of the bridge of our construction machinery. It is made up of a driving pinion and a serrated crown. This serration is of the hypoid type for a less abrasive and quieter operation. The driving pinion, for its part, is fixed to the drive shaft while the large crown or serrated crown is fixed to the differential. It is called a bevel gear because the two parts are "paired" and are not separable.

On many construction machines, the motor creates a motion which is transmitted to the gearbox as well as to the drive shafts. When this longitudinal movement reaches the bridge, it must change its axis of rotation. From the longitudinal we have to pass to transversal in order to turn the two wheels of the same axle together. This is also called a corner return, because it is often at right angles. It can also be used in secondary transmission and also, in some cases, acting as speed reducer.
