Excavator or hydraulic shovel: lower frame and upper section

A hydraulic excavator consists of two main parts. The lower frame supports the undercarriage, with tracks on a construction hydraulic excavator or tires on an urban excavator, and the optional dozer blade. The upper frame, also called the turret or upper part, sits on the slewing ring and can rotate 360 degrees. Between them, the central swivel joint allows hydraulic oil to flow to the travel motors. The upper frame absorbs all digging forces: it is where the boom pivots and where the counterweight rests.

Boom foot, slewing ring, bores: our inspection

Cracks on an upper frame almost always appear in the same areas: around the boom foot and cylinder pins where digging forces concentrate. Our workshop inspects these areas, checks pin bore diameters, flatness of the slewing ring contact surface, and the condition of the counterweight and cab mounting points. Turrets with questionable welding repairs on structural zones are not offered for sale.
