What is the role of brake calipers?

The brake caliper is part of the overall braking system of a wheel loader, grader, wheel excavator, telescopic, dumper or backhoe loader. It will apply a significant pressure on the brake disc in order to slow down the machine. The caliper pressure is help by the plate which allow increasing the braking force.

There are several types of caliper in the construction world:

The fixed brake caliper:

The caliper will push the pads against the disc using pistons (1 or more).

The sliding caliper:

Only the inner plate is pushed against the disc by one or more pistons. This is the most popular caliper system on construction machines.
