A warped compartment door that won’t close, a torn hinge, or a broken lock lets in dust and water and exposes the fuel to theft. The door that provides access to daily maintenance

On an excavator, compartment doors, or side doors, close off access to the engine, hydraulic pump, filters, fuel tank, and battery compartment. They are opened several times a week, sometimes daily, which wears out the hinges and gas struts. Lockable with a key, they also protect sensitive components from vandalism on open sites. An original door retains the ventilation cutouts and insulation designed by the manufacturer, something that a custom-made sheet metal replacement rarely replicates.

Left, right, engine or battery: locating the door

Each door corresponds to a specific position: left or right side, front or rear of the turret, engine compartment door, pump door, or battery compartment door. On a Volvo or Case excavator, two adjacent doors often differ in shape and ventilation cutouts. Note the model and serial number, then photograph the door closed and open, showing hinges and lock. If the manufacturer’s reference is stamped inside the panel, write it down: this is the most reliable way to get the exact original part.

The hood generally covers the engine compartment from above, while the compartment door closes off lateral access. On some excavators, the two overlap, and the manufacturer refers to it as a side hood. Specify the exact location and provide a photo: our advisors will identify the correct designation.

The compartment door closes off a technical access point on the turret or chassis. The cab door, which has glass, provides access to the operator's cab and falls under the category of used cab doors. If your door includes a window and an internal handle, it is a cab door.
