What are the different types of Caterpillar transmissions?

Caterpillar wheeled loaders, bulldozers and dump trucks primarily use powershift gearboxes with planetary gears paired with a torque converter. Some compact machines, like small bulldozers, feature hydrostatic transmissions. Excavators transmit motion through hydraulic motors and travel and swing reducers.

Where is the Caterpillar factory located in Europe?

Caterpillar operates several production sites in Europe, notably in the UK at Peterlee for articulated dump trucks and Desford for backhoe loaders, as well as in France near Grenoble. For a used part, the factory location is less important than the part reference and your machine’s serial number.

Who owns Caterpillar?

Caterpillar Inc. is a publicly traded American company on the New York Stock Exchange: it is owned by its shareholders, mainly institutional investors. Its headquarters is now in Irving, Texas. The Cat dealer network consists of independent companies.

Can a used transmission be installed on a different Caterpillar model?

Sometimes, when two models share the same manufacturer part reference. Compatibility is verified by the part reference and the machine’s serial number, never solely by model name. Provide us with these two details: our technicians will confirm before shipping.

How do I know if a Caterpillar gearbox needs replacing?

Common signs include slipping under load, slow or harsh gear shifts, quickly darkening oil or metallic particles, and abnormal temperature rise. Have your mechanic diagnose the issue, then send us the gearbox part reference.

Should filters be changed at the same time as the transmission?

Yes. Transmission filters capture particles from wear of the old gearbox: keeping them in place means returning those particles into the rebuilt part. Replace filters along with the oil, following the reference and oil type specified for your model and year. These consumables—filters and oil—are not supplied with the used transmission.

How is a Caterpillar transmission delivered?

Heavy components ship on pallets via carrier, throughout France and internationally. Shipping time and cost depend on weight and destination; these are detailed in your quote based on the part reference.
