A boom that lowers on its own, a bucket responding late, or a function that no longer shuts off cleanly: on a #MACHINE# like an excavator, loader, or dozer Caterpillar , these symptoms often indicate an issue with the distributor. The distributors offered by Codimatra come from Caterpillar machines dismantled in our workshop: genuine parts, inspected and cataloged by the donor machine model. Discover the full range of functions on our hydraulic distributor range for all brands.

The Distributor: directing the Caterpillar hydraulic circuit

The distributor receives the flow from the pump and directs it to the correct actuator: boom cylinder, stick or bucket cylinder, swing motor, or travel motor. Each section corresponds to a function, and each spool opens according to the operator’s command. On recent excavators, Caterpillar solenoid valves control these spools. A worn spool or a fatigued check valve is enough to cause loss of power or precision throughout the machine.

Caterpillar Hydraulic Distributor for 319D, 321D, 323E and 324ELN models

  • 300 Series Crawler Excavators: models 307 to 374DL, including the 319D, 320, 320C, 320DL, 321D LCR, 323E, 323F, and 324D.
  • Long and LN Versions: 324ELN, 325 and 325LN, 325D, 326F LN, 330B, 330C, and 330DL.
  • Large Machines: 336EL, 345C, 350, 365B II, and 374DL.
  • Compact Excavators: 303.5, 307, 307B, and 308.
  • Model Reference: the number of sections varies between versions, making an exact model essential.

Caterpillar Hydraulic Distributor for 325LN, 365B and M320

Wheeled excavators M312, M318C, M318D, M320, and M322C have their own distributor, which also powers the blade or stabilizers. Large crawler excavators like the 365B use broader distributors with high flow. For a specific model, for example, see the parts available for the Caterpillar 325LN hydraulic distributor. Our technicians always match the reference on your distributor with the machine's serial number.

Caterpillar Hydraulic Distributor for 950F, D5H and D6M

  • Wheel Loaders: Models 924F to 988G, including the 950F, 950G, 950H, 966G, 972G, and 980G.
  • Crawler Loaders: 953, 963, and 973, depending on versions.
  • Dozers: D4H, D5H, D6H, D6M XL, D6R XL, D6T, and D8L.
  • Graders and Dump Trucks: 12G, 14G, 14M, 120G, 140H, dump trucks from 730C2 to 772.
  • Backhoe Loaders and Telescopic Handlers: 428D and TH62.

Caterpillar Hydraulic Pump 320 or 428D: check the upstream circuit

Before blaming the distributor, check its supply. On a 320 excavator or a 428D backhoe loader, a worn Caterpillar hydraulic pump causes slow movements on all functions simultaneously, whereas a malfunctioning distributor generally affects a specific function. Measuring pressure at the inlet and outlet of each section will clarify the diagnosis. For the upstream part of the circuit, visit our Caterpillar hydraulic pump page.

How to Identify a Caterpillar Distributor

  • Model: exact machine model, version, and serial number.
  • Plate: Caterpillar or manufacturer reference engraved on the body.
  • Sections: number of spools and any additional functions.
  • Control: hydraulic or electric, with or without solenoid valves installed.
  • Ports: position of connections and control lines.

Refitting a Used Hydraulic Distributor

Label each hose before removal: reversed connections change function direction. After a pump or hydraulic motor failure, drain and filter the oil, as remaining particles in the circuit will scratch the distributor spools during reassembly. Then reinstall the control lines, bleed each function individually, and check the adjustment pressures. Our Caterpillar hydraulic page includes other circuit components.

The hydraulic distributor is the control block of the circuit: it receives pressurized oil from the pump and distributes it to actuators, cylinders, and hydraulic motors according to the operator’s commands. On a Caterpillar construction machine, it also regulates the flow of each function and protects the circuit thanks to its pressure relief valves.

Common signs include a function drifting with the engine off, jerky movement starts, oil warming up despite normal pump flow, or an external leak at a spool. If only one function is affected, the spool or valve of that section is the prime suspect.

A hydraulic specialist can replace spool seals or a defective valve. When the bore or spool itself is scored, a repair becomes costly and time-consuming: a used original distributor with the same reference is often the fastest solution. Codimatra supplies the part; the repair is up to your hydraulic technician.
