How does the hydraulic system of a Volvo excavator work?

The diesel engine drives the main pumps, which pressurize the oil. The valve, controlled by the cab levers, directs the flow to the relevant cylinder or hydraulic motor. On newer excavators, electronics continuously adjust pump flow on demand to optimize fuel efficiency.

Hydraulic issue on a Volvo mini excavator: what should I check?

Start by checking the oil level and condition, then filters and hoses. Slow movement across all functions points to the hydraulic pump, while a single faulty movement indicates the cylinder, valve section, or hydraulic motor at fault. Measure pressures and flow rates before ordering parts.

Where can I find the pump and hydraulic schematic for a Volvo EC25?

The hydraulic schematic for a Volvo EC25 mini excavator is available in the manufacturer’s workshop manual, accessible through the Volvo CE network. Our pump stock mostly covers excavators from the EC55C upwards: provide us with the part number, and we’ll check availability of a compatible used hydraulic pump.

What type of hydraulic fluid does a Volvo excavator use?

The hydraulic oil viscosity grade, typically ISO VG 32, 46, or 68, depends on operating temperature. Biodegradable oils are available for specific sites. Refer to your machine’s maintenance manual and avoid mixing oil types after replacing parts.

Who manufactures the Volvo engines?

Volvo’s diesel engines are designed by the Volvo Group, which also manufactures truck engines. Some compact machines use engines from partners. For parts, the key detail is the reference number on the engine or component plate.
