Used Case Cylinder

Wheel excavator WX, backhoe loader 580, loader 721, or dozer 1150M: on a Case machine, every equipment movement relies on a cylinder. When one leaks or no longer holds position, the machine loses precision and eventually stops. At its workshop in Castelculier, Codimatra removes cylinders from dismantled Case machines and offers them used after inspection: boom cylinders, bucket cylinders, steering cylinders, and tilt cylinders. The donor machine model accompanies every cylinder sold.

Case Cylinders for WX Wheel Excavators and CX Excavators

On a Case excavator, the Case boom cylinder supports the entire attachment and operates with every loading cycle: it is the most requested part. The stick cylinder adjusts the reach, the bucket cylinder ensures penetration and tilting. WX wheel excavators add unique functions: offset cylinder to shift the boom along a wall, variable stroke cylinder on two-piece booms, stabilizer or blade cylinders to steady the machine. Each has its own stroke, diameters, and mountings, which is why starting from the original reference is crucial.

Case 580 Backhoe Loader: Loader, Rear Excavator, and Extendo

A Case 580G, 580SK, or 580SLE backhoe loader combines two attachments and corresponding cylinder families. In the front, lift and tilt cylinders for the loader. At the rear, boom, stick, and bucket cylinders, complemented by steering cylinders that rotate the excavator and stabilizers. On telescopic stick versions, the extendo cylinder extends reach without moving the machine. These cylinders vary from one 580 generation to another; the serial number is the key identifier.

Dozer 1150M and Case Loaders: Blade Lift and Ripper

On a Case 1150M dozer, blade lift cylinders absorb earthmoving shocks and the blade’s weight during each lift. The ripper cylinder endures very high pulling forces when breaking ground. On 621 and 721 loaders, arm lift and tilt cylinders work under continuous load, while steering cylinders control articulation. For these parts, an original cylinder maintains the equipment’s geometry and prevents axle misalignment.

Replacing Hydraulic Cylinder Seals: Key Points to Check

  • Rod: must be straight, free of scratches or pitting on the chrome surface; otherwise, the replaced seal will leak quickly.
  • Guide and bushing: lateral play in the rod causes asymmetrical seal wear.
  • Piston and barrel: internal scratches let oil pass from one chamber to another.
  • Tools: head wrench, disassembly bench, and press for large Case boom cylinders.
  • Proper seals: a complete kit matching the cylinder’s exact reference; never mix parts.

Hydraulic Cylinder or Used Case Cylinder Repair

A hydraulics specialist can rebuild a Case boom or bucket cylinder: replacing seals, rechroming the rod, repairing the barrel or bushings. This repair is justified when the cylinder body is sound and the machine can wait. When the rod is bent, the barrel heavily scored, or quick replacement is needed, an original used cylinder from an identical model is often faster to obtain. Cylinder overhaul is not a service Codimatra provides: we supply the complete inspected part for your mechanic to install. If the cylinder failed due to oil contamination, see also our Case hydraulics page.

It controls the telescopic stick on the rear excavator. When extending, it slides the inner part of the stick, increasing reach and digging depth. It is only found on backhoe loaders equipped with this option: check for the presence of a telescopic stick before ordering.

It is usually stamped or engraved on the barrel near a mounting eye, or on the cylinder head. Clean the area before reading it. If the marking is gone, the reference can be found in the machine’s parts catalog from its serial number or, if not, by measuring center distance, stroke, and diameters.

It is also called a hydraulic cylinder, a direct translation of the English term 'cylinder' used in parts catalogs, or a linear actuator in technical documents. On job sites, many operators simply say "piston," although the piston is actually only an internal part of the cylinder.

Three types are commonly identified. Single-acting cylinders, powered on one side, return by gravity or spring. Double-acting cylinders, powered alternately on both sides, equip nearly all functions on a Case excavator or backhoe loader, from bucket to stabilizers. Telescopic cylinders with nested stages are mainly used for long-stroke buckets.

For a Case 580 G backhoe loader, a seal kit is enough if the rod and barrel are in good condition and the leak is solely due to worn seals. If the rod is scored or the cylinder still leaks after repair, a complete used cylinder matching the original reference will solve the problem for good.
