What is the bearing of the undercarriage called?

On a tracked machine, the load-bearing assembly is called the undercarriage or track chain assembly. It includes the sprocket, bottom and top rollers, the idler wheel, tensioner, and the track with its pads. Each component can be ordered separately according to its wear condition.

What is a running surface?

In mechanics, this is the surface on which the balls or rollers of a bearing run. On an undercarriage, it refers to the top surface of the track links on which the rollers run. Its wear is measured by link height and determines the rollers' lifespan.

Where is the Caterpillar factory located in Europe?

Caterpillar manufactures notably in the United Kingdom and France, near Grenoble. We detail these sites on our Caterpillar transmission page. For a used undercarriage part, the most important details are the machine's reference and serial number.

How can you tell if an undercarriage is worn?

Sharp sprocket teeth, rollers with worn tread, a track that rapidly loosens or skips, and oil leaks on the rollers are the most common signs of wear. Have the track pitch and roller diameter measured and send us these figures.
