Used Case Hydraulics

From Case CX excavators to the classic 88 series inherited from Poclain, and the 580 backhoe loaders, hydraulics represent a significant part of a Case machine's value. When a component fails, the machine stops. Codimatra dismantles carefully selected Case machines and resells their original hydraulic components, all workshop-tested: pumps and valve blocks, rotary joints, swing motors and travel gear motors. You get the original reference without waiting for manufacturer delays.

Case hydraulic system: one circuit, key components

On a Case excavator, one or more variable displacement pumps supply the valve block, which directs oil to the equipment cylinders, the swing motor, and through the rotary joint, to the travel motors. On a 580 backhoe loader, a single pump serves the loader, the rear excavator, and the steering. Each component depends on the others: a worn pump overheats the oil, a leaking rotary joint causes loss of travel on one side. Your model's hydraulic diagram, found in the service manual, locates each component and its connections.

Case hydraulic pump and components in stock

Case CX, WX, and 88 series excavators supported

Our stock covers Case tracked excavators from the CX75SR to the CX330, including CX135SR, CX210, CX210B, CX225SR, CX240, and CX290, as well as the wheeled WX145 to WX210 models. It also includes the 88 series from Poclain: 688, 788, 888, 1088, 1188 and 1288, in both wheeled and tracked versions, along with the 9007 and 9046. For loaders and backhoe loaders, we have models 121D, 221E and 721D, plus backhoe loaders 580G, 580SK and 580SLE.

How to identify a Case hydraulic part

  • Machine: model, version (P, PB, SR, LC), and serial number.
  • Reference: marked on the part's plate, either Case or original manufacturer.
  • Specifications: cylinder size of a pump or motor, number of valve sections.
  • Connections: number, position, and diameter of ports.
  • Photos of the part, its plate, and ports.

Case hydraulic cylinder seal: repair or replace

A leak at the rod seal of a Case boom or dipper arm cylinder does not always require replacing the entire cylinder. If the rod is straight and smooth, your mechanic can replace the seal kit. If the rod is scored, the guide worn, or the leak recurs after repair, it's better to replace the whole unit. Our used Case cylinders are categorized by function and original machine, with measurements. An original cylinder maintains the mountings and stroke specified for your excavator or backhoe loader.

Case hydraulic oil and filter after a failure

  • Oil change: a broken pump or motor sends debris throughout the circuit, so hydraulic oil must be replaced.
  • Hydraulic filters: replace the return and pilot filters before restarting.
  • Flushing: if the oil contains metal particles, flush the circuit and clean the tank.
  • Oil cooler and hoses: inspect as they often trap debris.
  • Rotary joint: on an excavator, a worn joint causes internal leaks affecting travel.
  • Recommended oil: use the grade specified in your Case machine manual.

Case and Poclain: legacy of the 88 series

At the end of the 1970s, Case took control of the French manufacturer Poclain, a pioneer of the hydraulic excavator. The 88 series excavators, produced later under both brands, share most of their hydraulic components. For these still common machines on construction sites, a used pump, valve block or rotary joint is often the only quick solution. Before shipment, our technicians verify the reference marked on the component against your machine's serial number.

On a construction machine, hydraulics transfer power from the diesel engine to the equipment. The pump pressurizes the oil, the valve block directs it, then cylinders and hydraulic motors convert it into movement. It enables generating very high forces with compact components and precise control.

On machines, there are three hydraulic circuit designs: open center, where oil returns to the tank when no command is active; closed center, where the pump maintains available pressure; and load sensing, where the pump adjusts flow on demand. Your Case machine manual specifies the system used.

Case belongs to the CNH group, part of CNH Industrial, which includes Case Construction Equipment for construction machinery and Case IH for agricultural equipment. The brand was founded in the USA in the 19th century. Its European excavators owe much to Poclain's heritage.

On a Case excavator, a worn pump usually shows by sluggish machine response: longer operating cycles, boom struggling in combined lift, engine speed dropping less under load. A whistling sound at intake or foamy oil completes the picture. Flow measurement on a test bench or machine confirms the diagnosis before ordering.
