What is the price of a drive shaft?

The price of a used Caterpillar drive shaft varies depending on the machine, shaft length, position, and universal joint condition. A shaft from a large loader or rigid dump truck costs more than a short shaft from a compact dozer. Some parts have prices displayed as-is on the website; for others, send us the reference and model to receive a quote.

What are the symptoms of a faulty drive shaft?

Common symptoms include vibrations that increase with speed, a clicking noise when shifting directions, or noticeable play in a universal joint. A warped tube, a sticking slip yoke, or rust around universal joint cups confirm the diagnosis. With the machine stationary, a visual inspection beneath the chassis usually suffices.

What is another name for the drive shaft?

In construction workshops, it’s often called a universal joint or cardan shaft. The term technically refers to the articulated joint at each end, but usage extends it to the entire part. It's also known as the propeller shaft, and in English documents, referred to as a "drive shaft." For ordering, the Caterpillar catalog number remains the most reliable reference.
